Rotary China and FiltaStraw

The Shanghai and Beijing Rotary Clubs is now also involved in assisting FiltaStraw to supply LifeBox and Shelterbox with 720 straws each for onward transmission within their units. This brings the total quantity to 1440 straws. Due to the earthquake, Sichuan has a severe lack of potable water.
The initiative to allow access to potable water comes from the Rotary Club of Brynmawr Water Projects (Charity Number: 1118064). See their website for more details:

The FiltaStraw is designed as a temporary solution to contaminated water in times of natural or man made disasters. It will not filter out Cyanides or other heavy metals. Care should be taken at all times to ensure the water about to be used is as pure as can be under the circumstances. It is the user’s decision to use this device and no responsibility can be accepted in any form by the distributors of this device.
A FiltaStraw is a personal water purification tool and should only be used for filtering drinking water. Users suck water up through the FiltaStraw like using a straw. The website gives more details on how to use.
On another note, Shanghai Rotarian Randal Eastman has also put a blog up to report recent news on what our China Clubs are doing for the earthquake relief:
