President John opened the meeting by extending a warm welcome to our guests and fellow members.

Reports & Announcements
Club President John made his report arising from the July Board meeting. He announced the Board’s objectives for the 2009/10 and ran through the key items discussed and agreed by the Board.
Club President John announced that the scheduled meeting for August 11th will be changed to August 14th to enable the Rotary International President, John Kenny, to attend our meeting. Visiting Rotarian Becky Loy gave a presentation on her current joint project with our club on Safe Birthing in Tibet.
Rtn. Norbert announced that he was being repatriated back to Germany and wished to thank his Rotarian family for the fellowship that has been extended to him during his time in Beijing. He donated two books which were later auctioned and raised RMB350 for Club projects. President John thanked him for his service to Rotary and hoped that he will continue his Rotary work in Germany.
President John read an email received from a previous Rtn, of our Club, Rtn. Urpo Raunio, from Finland who had recently undergone a brain operation. On behalf of the Club, President John wished him a speedy recovery from his recent operation.
