Reports & Announcements
Rotary International President John Kenny make a short speech about his experiences in China so far and his goals for Rotary in China as well as internationally. Mr. Kenny pointed that the most important part of Rotary are the individual Rotary Clubs, whose service and dedication to their communities are the building blocks of fellowship and Rotary as an organization. The theme of RI this year is called He discussed the meaning of “The future in your hands” this years Rotary motto and exhorted members to look at the quality of members rather than the quantity. His goal, each Club should recruit and admit at least one new member whose dedication to the ideals and practice of “service and fellowship” would be a life long commitment. He suggested the best way to find these people was to look among friends for those whose values already reflected those of Rotary. Mr. Kenny indicated that end Polio would remain RI’s focus until it had been achieved but also talked about the need to look at the issues of access to and sanitation of water, and its connection to health and hunger, the building blocks of a civil society.

Membership Committee Chair, Peter Humphrey, introduced Priscilla Wong, sponsored by IPP Kevin Fong to be initiated into the Club. Her classification will be Human Resource Services.

Priscilla who is from Hong Kong has been living in Beijing with her family since 1995. In 1999 she started a human resource company which concentrates on recruitment. She is an advisor to the China Social Entrepreneur Foundation, (the only anti-poverty foundation endorsed by the State Council Leading Group of Poverty & Alleviation and Development in China), and a contributing Member of the Capital Club’s charity efforts, where she led an effort to provide financial scholarships to 18 students in financial need at the University of Chinese Medicine.
Priscilla says charity has always been part of her life objectives. She states she wishes to work with Rotary on issues involving under-privileged people in China.

RIP Mr. Kenny was the first person to shake her hand after she was pinned by President John.
Priscilla Wong began her Rotary life by leading the four way test in English and Chinese.

RIP John Kenny personally gave Club president his president’s pin and John gave an emotional thanks to the Kenny’s and the Club.
