President John opened the meeting by extending a warm welcome to our guests and fellow members.
Four way test was administered by Sergeant-at-Arms Gilbert in English and Afrikaans.

Reports & Announcements
Visiting Rotarian and International Tour Leader Mr. James Pannell introduced his group of visiting Rotarians, which included Rotarian’s from 12 clubs in UK; USA; West Australia; Canada, Brazil and South Africa.

President John invited Rtn. Christoph to talk about the background of Beijing Rotaract Club which he actively helped establish. The Club currently has 15members and more potential members are in the pipeline. President John then presented the official RI Club Certificate to Rotaract Club President Julian Fish, and board member Victor Simoes.

John announced that September 27th will be the second visit to Gubeikou village. Rtn. Stephan will be coordinating the trip which will qualify as a meeting makeup, those wishing to go please email Stephan (Stephan.hoffmann-kuhnt[at]siemens.com) or CA Nancy

Peter and Carl are organizing a one day fellowship event to Mutianyu. It will be a reprise of their 2006 fellowship outing which will involve fishing and a trout lunch at a restaurant near Mutianyu. It will take place on 17th October 2009. Those going by bike should meet at Pinnacle Plaza, opposite the Euro Villa at 9 AM those who want to go by car should meet at 10 AM at the same place. Please notify Nancy if you want to go and indicate if you are going by bike or car. If you are willing to share your car please indicate how many empty seats you have. Those who need a ride also let Nancy know how many will be in your party. The distance from Pinnacle to Mutianyu is roughly 47 km, about hour by car and two by bicycle. For those, who love to bike, a group will leave Pinnacle Plaza at 9 AM , and expect to reach Mutianyu some time between 11 and 12 am.

President John announced that November 14th will be the China Conference.

Speaker’s Program
Speaker program coordinator, Rtn. Alan introduced today’s speaker Ruby Chang, who is chairing this year’s Christmas Bazaar.
Rtn. Ruby presented her work plan and ideas of where and how she is organizing this year’s bazaar on November 21 & 28. Ruby meanwhile is asking for help from our club members to find interesting vendors and donate goods for sale. The Christmas Bazaar is one of our two important fund raisers which provides us with the means to support worthy service projects. Members who are interested in participating or have some good ideas/advise please contact Ruby (rubychangbeijing[at]gmail.com)
