Reports & Announcements
Visiting guest Mr. Robert LØken introduced himself to members. He was asked to introduce himself by Rotarian John Dhosvold from Oslo who has visited our club a number of times before. Robert is in the process of walking the whole Great Wall alone, using maps from the Ming Dynasty, 6000KM, in one year. He has so far completed half and hopes to complete the other half over the next six months. Robert was warmly welcomed and asked to come and see us again when he finishes.
President John presented the November board meeting report. The report will be printed on club website, members’ access only. (of course if the webmaster receives it)
President John asked for nominations for officers and directors, PE Gilbert introduced a slate of officers and directors, a call for additional nominations resulted in no additional names. A motion was made by Einar to close the nominations and move the slate en-bloc; the motion was seconded by Charles and passed unanimously. The names on PE Gilberts list will be put on the agenda for a vote on Dec. 8 at the regular lunch meeting.
CS Einar also made a concise Admin committee report. The committee is dealing with things which will help the club to operate smoothly, especially in the area of communications, suggestions are always welcome.
RI committee director Jo reminded members that the China conference will take place on Nov 14th. Approximately 10 representatives from the Shanghai, Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs will be attending as well as the visiting GSE team. The venue will be the Marriott NE, start time will be 8:45 AM, lunch will be provided but only 17 spots are open so please contact Jo (siyijo@gmail.com) or Nancy to reserve a seat. There will be a social diner at a fabulous Indian restaurant at the hotel starting at 6:30, cost RMB 200/guest, family and friends are welcome.
Rotaract Club Liaison, Rtn. Christopher reported that the club has 24 members. In addition to the clothes drive they are considering a number of potential. More will be reported when details are available.
Interact Club Liaison, Rtn. Carl reported that the RCB contributed RMB 20, 000 to the Cambodian Housing Project. The Dulwich College team will leave Beijing on November 04th. A follow up report will be made when they return.
PR director Charles announced that he will be hosting and guiding a fellowship tour of the Legation Quarter with lunch on Nov 15. Prices are: RMB 380/exclusive wine, RMB430/with wine. Tour will start at Beijing Urban planning museum at 10:30, please do RSVP with Charles(charles.lagrang@total.com) or Nancy.
Christmas Bazaar Chairman Ruby announced that preparation is going well. She encouraged all members to share in the volunteer duties by taking one four hour shift preferably with a friend to make it more enjoyable. Members who will not be able to make it should recruit others to fill their place. Ruby is also looking for volunteers to help with the garage sale, the various raffles and for Santa’s, costumes provided by Marriott. Members please contact Ruby to volunteer.
