More than 10 students/graduates from the Gubeikou areas who are supported by Rotary Beijing, Sunshine Youth Foundation and Red Cross participated in the project which involved training in writing CVs, interview techniques and career coaching. 13 companies participated in the project and 4 students have been successfully placed so far and another 5 students are at the interview stage. All fees and expenses were donated free of charge and so the project was completed at zero cost to the club.
Interact Service Report
Visiting Interactors, Darren Tang (President), William Wan (PR Director), Nicol Lo (Rotary Liaison Officer) and Patrick Yao from the Interact club of Dulwich College presented their Orphan Medical Screening Project which is due to take place on 18/19th April at the Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. 96 youngsters from the Guang Ai Orphanage will receive their first ever medical screening. At a cost of RMB30,000, mostly raised by the Interact Club directly, Project Leaders Nicol and Partick introduced the project at the luncheon and many Rotarians will also attend this event to lend their support.
Visiting Rotarian from Hereford, UK
Visiting Rotarian PP Iain Dinnie, from City of Hereford Rotary Club, in the UK presented a brief overview of his club. The club was founded in 1930 and meetings are held every Monday, alternating between lunch and evenings. With around 45 members, including only six women, over the years the club has moved from a 90/10 split on working and retired members respectively, to 10/90. He added that Hereford was world famous for the SAS and also the Hereford cattle whose white faces and long horns have graced many older western movies.
Rotary Ball
President John reminded members of the coming Ball on May 22nd at the Sofitel Hotel. Reservations for tickets are now available through PR Director Rtn. Charles. It is hoped that each member can sell at least 4 tickets. President John also made a plea for raffle prizes.
