Reports & Announcements
Club Membership Committee Chair, Rtn. Peter chaired the induction ceremony for our new member, Rtn. Ilse Mann. As part of the Induction ceremony, Rtn. Peter led the Four Way Test in both German and English. Club President Kevin assisted with the induction ceremony by placing the Rotary pin on our new member.
Ilse is sponsored by Rtn. Niels Uwe-Behrens. Ilse is a German national. She has attended more than 10 of our meetings. She is currently working in Beijing as General Manager of Swareflex (Beijing) Traffic Technology Co Ltd. Ilse has experience in voluntary work and she was once involved in organizing a private truck convoy with relief supplies for an earthquake in Turkey.
She recently helped organize donations for the Austrian Embassy Gala Dinner in support of the SOS Children’s Village in China.
Rtn. Jim Firmin from RC Morgan City, Louisiana presented his report on last Sunday’s (April 19) trip to Bulaotun, part of the Gubeikou Education Project.
Rtn. Curt Bergstrom updated members on the progress of RCB May Ball preparations.
Rtn. Charles Lagrange reported that after great efforts from Rotarians, English teaching students have done a very good job at the Sun Village in teaching children English. RCB is arranging a visit to the Children’s village on May 2nd. Immediately following the trip, President Kevin and his family will host a fellowship BBQ lunch at his house.
Speaker’s Program
Rtn. Alan introduced today’s speaker, Ms. Christine Cayol. Ms. Cayol’s presentation was entitled “Art and Business”. She explained that people can benefit in their careers by keeping themselves open to new ideas and by trying new things. She used the work of famous painters, in particular Picasso, to explain how external events can influence a painter to change his style.
Rtn. Charles thanked Ms. Cayol for her interesting presentation.
